History
The Northwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation was founded in 1974 by Mrs. Mavice Wallet and was incorporated in 1975. Very little was known about this hereditary blood disorder in the USA at that time; so community education became the Foundation's first priority. Other objectives were added as the Foundation's needs and resources were identified and developed. To reflect the total scope of this chapter's activities, in 1994, the name was changed to Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc., Northwest Louisiana Chapter (SCDAA NWLA Chapter).
